John Wright

(BVSc (Hons), BPharm (Syd))

John was raised on a cattle property near Tamworth and has always had an interest in animals. He graduated from Sydney University in 1980 as a Pharmacist, and worked full time for 8 years. The calling for working with animals was too strong to resist, he left full time Pharmacy, and worked on his father’s cattle property for 3 years.  Realising his purpose in life, John started the 5 year full time degree of Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland, at the age of 32. During his studies, he and his wife, Sue, had 2 daughters (born in 2nd year and 4th year Uni).

After graduation, John knew that small animals were his calling. He started working at Salisbury Vet Surgery, and at its Branch practice in Inala – Skylark Street Vet. During this time, another daughter born. After 3 & ½ years, John’s boss retired, so he purchased the two practices. Concentrating his efforts into the Salisbury practice, Skylark Street Vet was sold.

Over the last 20 years, John knows that ongoing education is vital for a successful practice. He has attended 5 weeklong conferences (Dermatology in 1998, Senior Care in 2003, Surgery in 2007, Feline Medicine and Surgery in 2009, and Ophthalmology in 2012). He has also completed 3 year long correspondence courses (Feline Medicine in 2000, Surgery in 2001 and Radiology in 2005), as well as attending several workshops.

John’s interests lie in good medicine and surgery. He performs routine surgery as well as many orthopaedic cases (Cranial Cruciates {ACLs}, Perthes and Patellas luxations).

When not at work, he is a home Handyman (typical male), rides his bike. He and his Wife (Sue), have two cats (Luna and Quill) and 3 daughters.

Shelley

Head Nurse (Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing)

Hi My name is Shelley and I am a member of the Salisbury Vet Nursing Team, and being the Practice Manager, I share the management duties with John.  I have been with the team over thirteen years now and love being able to help care for your very special family members. Animals are my passion and originally coming from a Financial Industry background I feel very fortunate to be able to have a career that I love.

I have been a Breeder of Cornish Rex Cats now for over 30 years and was originally a client here at Salisbury for 15 years before I started working here. The teams dedication to your pets is second to none, which is why I guess we have lots of clients who travel quite a distance to see us.

You will occasionally find me in the Grooming Room, I enjoy pampering your pet, be they cat or dog with a bath, haircut and bow. We offer a unique service option of Owner to Hold appointments for those pets who are a little nervous or for the clients who don't wish to leave their pets for a full day stay.
